well turns out the apartment owner has gone bankrupt, so booking.com cant do anything. That we have had the money refunded is a plus apparently some of the more recent people staying had paid a £250 deposit which hasn't been refunded to them, definitely moves our situation back into a minor disaster.
We have managed to book a hotel for a reasonable price (more expensive) but thankful that my cousin picked up this message at 4am as by time I got into work and able to look prices had jumped significantly.

GG - as you say it's not great, but sounds as though it could have been worse. I'm glad you've managed to salvage something from it.
My latest minor disaster is that PT has cancelled at short notice due to a tummy bug. I could do a HIIT workout at home, but realistically I probably won't. Might go swimming...

I overfluffed my cake batter and my cake sank. It still tastes OK though, so total disaster has been nicely averted.

I have lost all the work I did on a grant application on Monday. It's due next Monday. I can't remember anything I wrote.
