Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

What minor disaster has befallen you today?

The decorator has put the first coat of paint on the wall that the bedhead will be against. It is not the dusky, pale pink the little card I brought home from B&Q suggested but a much more sugary pink. I may have to spend some time at the Dulux paint-mixing station tomorrow.

Cut my lunchtime walk short to be back in time for a 13:30 meeting only to find the meeting had been postponed while I was out.

The yolk on my fried egg broke as I was taking it out of the pan. A load of yolk went on the hob. Then when I was eating, I managed to drip a bit of egg down my front.

Started to cook some split peas. After a while, I asked Google how long they take to cook. The first four pages it came up with had all sorts of discussions and useful facts about split peas, and in fact had as their page title something like "How long does it take to cook split peas", but none of them had an answer.

I am now cooking lentils instead.

My Good Housekeeping Cookbook says:

To prepare: Rinse and soak overnight in cold water, or cover with cold water, bring to the boil, then leave to stand in the hot water for about 2 hours.
Basic cooking: Drain the soaked (dried beans, peas & lentils) cover with fresh water and add herbs, vegetables, bacon or a ham bone for flavouring. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer until soft. (Split peas - 1 hour)

The Sweaty Betty running gloves/mitts I bought on Vinted are too small! Only a minor disaster as I can resell them (but they would have been perfect!) 🙁
