I didn’t know that yet it rings a vague bell like someone told me before but I forgot. Good for them.

I fleetingly confused Toyah with Hazel O’Connor in my head just then but the moment has passed.

Pity that Robert Fripp never did any music for the Teletubbies.

Or maybe he did?

@Rudolf the RedNosedGroundhog Is that Smells like teen spirit? (video link seems to be borked). If so, yes, fabulous - Fripp is playing two guitar parts at once. AFAIK They started with Fracture 6 months ago and took it from there. Much to be admired.

No-one better send this link to Plodding Hippo - otherwise she's going to have to seriously up her game when it comes to dancing in the kitchen. Mind you, Hipps does manage to cook at the same time as dance! :)

I'm not sure whether to be delighted or appalled.

The earliest known reference to Christians celebrating Christmas on 25/12 is from 354. The earliest known reference to a Roman festival of the unconquered sun on that date is in the same document.

[that's a really interesting article, Chris. Oddly, though, while it puts up a good argument to say xmas isn't specifically based on a pagan festival, it doesn't seem to do much to dispel the myth it was appropriated for christian convenience due to its many links to other, non-pagan, festivals. the bit about shepherds only being in their fields March to Nov isn't something that was mentioned when i was at school!]

the particular assertion I copied would be easy enough to falsify.

[Blah de blah. Solstice festivals are likely to have had much less significance the further south you go. It is a reasonable supposition that they were observed in the northern parts of the Roman Empire well before the Romans even turned up.]
