Speed limits on motorway overhead gantries may show different speeds for each lane.

They can also show speeds below 40.

Do you not have sophistication like that in England, Chris? I was enjoying the M8 through Glasgow today (I really was, it's fine when it's not full of traffic :-)).

If you want to break an egg outdoors, dropping it will only make it bounce. You really have to throw it high in the air for it to break on landing.

Kudos to anyone who can tell me why that is a reasonable thing to do.

[I was camping at a friends house in Suffolk in June and her elderly father told us on the Saturday night that his own father had always declared that you could throw an egg over a house and it won't break. We thought this worthy of a try and he offered a bottle of wine if anyone could try it. So I threw one over his 2.5 storey house and it landed on the patio and broke. On the second attempt I threw it higher and further and it landed on the lawn intact. He was really chuffed and quite sentimental about his father being right. I got a bottle of Rioja and lots of kudos]

I beg to differ Chris, none of the eggs I've dropped have bounced, even on grass.

Mike, that's impressive!

The answer is that eggs found in odd places could be ancient, so they are recycled as chicken food. But they have to be smashed first. The chickens eat the shells as well.

Chickens *love* eggs. If one breaks I have to clear it up really fast before they start eating it or they'll get a taste for them and break them on purpose.

Evil baby eating cannibal chickens!

I knew there was probably a reason why I didn't like them much (except cooked).

If a human did such a thing to their own young it'd be a horror movie.
