The "gala" launch of BBC2 had to be put back a day because Battersea Power Station caught fire about 30 minutes before the official launch of the channel and there was a massive power cut across West London. BBC1 was unaffected as they still used facilities at Alexandra Palace. Therefore the first programme to be broadcast on BBC2 was "Play School" |

That it seems nobody at 10 Downing Street owns an umbrella that could be used to give the PM some shelter during his announcement. (Or maybe he was standing in the rain to gain some sympathy votes 🤔) |

That "Kosher salt", as often referred to in recipes, refers to salt without additives like iodine, and isn't a religious reference. [Wiki: The term kosher salt gained common usage in the United States and refers to its use in the Jewish religious practice of dry brining meats, known as kashering, and not to the salt itself being manufactured under any religious guidelines. ]
