Having a light head on rising is caused by one's brain settling back into its proper place. [not really, but an explanation a lovely elderly lady gave me yesterday😊]

that a 'pitched battle' has a specific definition - a battle in which the time and place are determined beforehand.

Pitched battles were often organised between our school and the nearby one when I was at school in the 70’s. Bus loads of them would turn up to the field and batter the hell out of each other.

Pitched battles were often organised between our school and the nearby one when I was at school in the 70’s. Bus loads of them would turn up to the field and batter the hell out of each other. We had a convenient park half way between the Catholic and non Catholic schools for such activity.
How battles were fought down the ages is fascinating. Anything from bloody slaughter to stage managed theatre with limited bloodshed. The latter sounds more positive to be involved in.
