But you guys *are* multiple WHWers, so I don't want to hear from *you* Maybe I should go start another thread - WHW Newbies, are you excited yet?
Excitement of the ballot (even if I don't get in, I'm training as if I am doing it and I might just run it solo the weekend after or something! ) The weekend - how long are you staying, are you booking something in Milngavie for Fri night? Have you got accommodation for Sat yet? Do you book for your crew too? Are you buying and trying out any new kit for this, your longest, biggest ultra that you've never done before? And yes, training, never mind am I training in Oct/Nov for June 2015, I've been training since June 2013 for this! (and I know some of you have PTs/coaches, so you actually are planning and doing the right thing, even now, based on your current ability and your goal for the race. I need to do the same, but I have no coach, so I have to work out what to do for myself. That's part of the fun! But I need input from others to do so. I've had great advice and it's worked really well for me when I was getting into marathons. I'd appreciate similar help with my ultra marathon goals. ) What races are you doing in your build up and what do you hope to get from them? How are you finding nutrition (in fact, just turn this into the John K quick fire:
Road or trail shoes (or do you plan to change them en route and use a mix?) What is your fave food too keep you going when all else fails? Do you use a Garmin, Tom Tom (having listened to Robbie Britton plugging his sponsors!), watch or prefer to run without knowing the time/pace? *monkey* 1 support crew or 2?
And many, many more. I'm enjoying the journey kids! G

And just remembered rest of John K quick Qs Water or energy drink (I think he means electrolyte drink, because water and energy drink are for different purposes, imho) Salt tablets (I'm using the Succeeds S-caps, cos they worked for me at Glenmore. Like Robbie B said, I've no idea of the science, but I'm scared to not take them now!) Bottles or a hydration pack (I've got my UD PB vest, with 2 bottles, but they do dig into my chest a bit - prob stick with that tho).

Not that I know anything, but for an Ultra I think that gels/energy drinks are a bad idea.
What SB describes above looks good to me.
Just recently I've found that milkshakes before, during and after races work for me!

Lots of tea works for me with a coke or irn bru occasionally.
Happy G I will try and answer questions when I'm not at work. It's good you are excited, sorry if I sounded a bit negative earlier. Don't start another thread. I think a lot more chat is happening on the whw fb group.

I do know these things about you santababy, and they are all valuable and interesting to know. Thanks for sharing.
FR, I have no probs with gels, but I was nearly sick at Glenmore trying to get one down late on, 16-20 hours at night, in the race. So I don't think I'll even attempt that again. Yes, I've found milkshakes quite good. My impromptu support at Glenmore forced a few chocolate For Goodness Shakes down me, because she had some spare. I'm sure it helped to keep me going when I really didn't fancy anything to eat by that point.
Anyone else want to have a go at the John K quick fire Qs? (great to get input from folk like santababy and FR who are both very experienced ultra runners or from WHW newbies. Or questions from such newbies. Maybe there are no WHW newbies on Fetch?! Just meeeee!) G

HappyG, I don't go for any of the 'posh' milkshakes, just the normal Sainsbury/Tesco/Asda products, that cost not much more than £1 for a litre.

G you are making me tired just reading all of that. I seriously cannot think any further until the result of the ballot is known. If I was doing what you are now I would be burnt out and bored by March I think!
