Thanks Happy G, very kind. Didn't work so well for me this year though. Even though we're at different levels I think my experience is worth passing on to you, after all you're quite *eager" to start training.
Exactly like I was for 2013 when I trained really hard through the prior Autumn and Winter, especially on the WHW. In fact I over-trained, and just about burnt out by March. It all happened just as the Santas and Fiona Rennies warned me it would, and did I listen? Anyway, just about got it back on track for June and managed to gain my goblet.
For this year's race I had pretty well the opposite experience. Crocked from ankle and leg injuries sustained during the 2013 race, I did zero miles right through until January. I remember the WHW training run where I hobbled like a snail for around 18 miles and then thumbed a lift back to Balmaha from Rowardennan - oh the shame! Anyway, I tried really hard after that to get the miles in, but it just wasn't enough, and I only managed 70 in the race before grinding to a halt. Also had a stressful couple of months before the race which really didn't help.
So the lesson is, yes, get the training in, there's no substitute for it, especially runs on the WHW. But don't overdo the effort too much compared with your normal routine. Your body may not cope with it. Many folk swear by back-to-back weekends in the Spring - great if you can afford the time. Oh, and not sure you need to run the technical sections faster, just spend more time on them. It's all about stamina, a steady rhythm and long, long days on feet. That's what the race will be; getting to the end before you collapse is what it's all about

Thanks M1nty - that's all good stuff. Yes, need to spend time on the trickier terrain. And speed is separate issue, so not speed on the WHW, that's true. I feel I've got the ability to just keep going for 24 hrs/100 miles now. The next bit I need is the strength to survive the climbs and scrambles. So very much terrain specific.
Sants, sorry, didn't mean Resolute were chancers or anything, just that they have a commercial setup and hence the early bird thing. G

I am thinking of racing Boab on G2E to see if I can beat Marco's time.

I might if I have a chance to race Boab G. Is it Imelda Marcos who has the record SB?. You two have a lot in common.

Marco Consani (does Debs Martin-Consani have the ladies' record? Or is it Lucy Colqhhoun still?) That would be awesome if you were up Joops. As for racing Boab, I once got to run near the end of a race with him, but only because it was a handicap and he gave me a hoooge head start. I still couldn't beat him! Not if he was dragging a tyre! Looks like Lucy Colquhoun with 6:50:00 from 2009 is the female record.

I don't think I could catch him on a moped G. It is one I have always fancied as it runs straight past my pals house in Linlithgow.

And mine Joops (well, 800m away!) Mrs S(rrr) should be able to bring us cups of tea / cucumber sandwiches down!
A lot of folk diss it because it's completely flat (apart from the 30 climb from one canal at bottom of Falkirk Wheel, to other canal at the top). But I loved it. No navigation issues (apart from when I had a navigation issue and got lost). No roads to cross (except a couple actually) anyhoo, I liked the route. Don't suppose there'd be much atmosphere, but I chatted to a few folk when I ran it as a training run a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. G
