I've just had an email confirming my ballot entry and results will be on 8 February. I don't remember entering the ballot and even if I had remembered, I assumed there would be no new entrants this year due to deferrals from last year. Presumably the odds are even slimmer than usual this year?

Would you do the virtual race if you didn't get in via the ballot? I did it last year, but I'm not sure I'd be up for it again.

I will not be doing a virtual London again. It is NOT running the London marathon.

A charity close to my heart have offered me a charity place for this year & I’m so torn. Running the London marathon is a bucket list goal for me. The charity has personal importance to me and I do a good deal of fundraising/ volunteering for them and they clearly need the money at the moment. But... the mandatory “fundraising goal” is so off putting this year. I’d decided to go for it if I got a ballot place. It’s not that much money and training for a goal would be good for me mentally & physically. I’m ok with the idea of turning up on the day itself, as I assume all the precautions will be taken, the vaccine will be available & it won’t happen if it’s too risky. Even if it had to go virtual again, I had a great day out with friends running it together last year & would be ok doing that again. But raising several thousand pounds at a time when a lot of people don’t have much to spare when there’s a good chance it will just be a virtual race? I don’t know. I’m so torn. I really really want to “do London” and part of my thinks this is my chance and I should grab it because I might not get it again if I turn it down this year. But if I do take it and the “proper” race doesn’t happen, I’ll have used up my chance and worn out the good will of my family & friends. There’s only so much you can hit people up for sponsorship before you’re just asking people to pay for your hobby. |

Tough call to make. If you are that close to the charity would you be able to get a place through them next year (when fundraising would hopefully be easier)? How much are they asking for? |
