Ran from the back wave, finished in just under 49 minutes, mainly among those in two waves ahead. Didn't really notice too much congestion - or at least nothing that I wasn't able to move around easily but maybe having ran this eight times before and knowing the streets, I was able to judge where and when to ease through. Found that all runners I passed gave room if I asked and shared a bit of encouragement, friendly greeting. Great to see the ladies supporting 'Celebrate You' and really nice to have the opportunity to run through streets in central London.

Fragile Do Not Bend
Such a shame to see on social media that they ran out of medals and T-shirts - and also goody bags so no much-needed water at the finish. Why are some race organisers still getting things so wrong?

Whilst I’m sure the event does a lot of good for charity, I assume they oversell places on the assumption that a certain % DNS. Maybe this is what happens if they turn up. They didn’t want to over order due to a “commitment to sustainability” I’ll have to remember that one for another day when I’ve run out of something!! |

From another event I'm involved in I know they calculate/estimate/guess the number of medals etc to buy based on the number of no shows they expect. The obvious thing is to buy the same number as the number of entries but presumably the entry cost takes account of the drop out rate, so would be higher if they bought stuff for everyone (and IMO was pretty expensive already, I only did it because I got a free place!) It's not an exact science and they got it wrong. I don't really care about getting a medal, at future events I'll probably not take one unless it's something very special. |
