I'm in the middle of a forest on the side of a mountain - but there's no street view, which is a real shame
444.6 miles done, I think that includes some walking miles now though.

I finished this a while ago and have my medal, I think I ended up 3rd of the runners only, something like 24th overall

Wow, lots of good progress! I'm at 380 miles with 270 to go. I'm just about to go up the little spur that leads to Rivendell. In the meantime, though, the view on the road is very similar to every other day.

That may be part of the issue, CD, but I feel also that this route has turned out to be a lot less interesting than it sounded. That may sound crazy, given the opportunity to travel through beautiful New Zealand, but the parts of North Island covered so far seem mainly to have been farmland or low altitude uncultivated areas. I think the relative lack of population density (is there a word for that?) resulting in the route visiting no settlements and skirting the one or two small towns we have passed has reduced the variety too.

As Rosehip points out, the places that look as though they could be quite scenic don’t have streetview. I’ve just passed Otarki Forks up in the mountains but no idea what it looks like.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with the lack of settlements en route making it less interesting, Synge. Every street view I’ve had has been quite similar. I’m missing the sea views that we had on the SWCP too.

Every time I look on street view it’s a single carriageway with a field on either side, so disappointed after being so enthusiastic at the beginning. I think what has been more disheartening is the amount of people finished with steps included in their total- I’m almost certain when I signed up that it was walk, run or treadmill only. The Castle Challenge is so more enjoyable.

I concur with all the above. Also I’ve found the leaderboard very confusing. Maybe I’ve missed the point somewhere but people seem to move around randomly, so there haven’t been consistent names to push myself against. It may also be just me but the app crashes constantly, which is a bit dull. I too thought it sounded great but find it difficult to feel a real connection to LOTR

I keep forgetting about this, it just isn’t as exciting as SWCP was. I am somewhere between Reikoiangi and Levin 446 done 203 to go.
