I think it’s different if you’re a veggie household and your guests know that. That’s very much not the situation here though. If we were visiting a veggie house at any stage Mrs Nellers wouldn’t expect them to cook meat just for her.
By the way, lunch was excellent. All the veg and trimmings were veggie, I had separate gravy and the wellington was delicious. It all went off very well.

Wellington, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, sweetcorn, beans, parsnips, red cabbage, gravy for me. A turkey crown and beef joint for everyone else. Mrs Nellers did a fantastic job with a bit of help from the rest of us.

My experience of being vegan in a room full of meat eaters (not Christmas) was that they ate the vegan food as side dishes to their meat. Did any of them try your foods Nelly?

To be honest there was so much food that I was the only one able to clear the plate so they didn’t really have the option.

Hi, just dipping my toe in here, I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I might be in the future. I've massively reduced my meat and dairy consumption and found it to be better than expected. I've seen a lot of stuff on the telly box about the meat industry and the benefits of plant based ( I know that's an awful term) diets and it's made me think. Advice, views and recommendations welcomed.

Just give it a go Doc. Lot easier now than when we started thirty years ago. Labelling is a lot better. Can’t hurt to try.
Lots of stuff to choose from. And a lot of it is pretty good.

Just try it and see! I think flavourings - herbs and spices - are important if you're cooking from scratch.
Don't feel pressured to completely give up on meat and dairy, just do what feels right for you. The occasional 'meat treat' if it suits you.
And finally, from a dietary perspective, I'd choose meat over ultra-processed vegetarian food.

Welcome DocM. I’m vegan for predominantly animal welfare reasons but whatever brings you here there are some great suggestions above. I was already vegetarian and did Veganuary as a challenge a couple of times before becoming vegan.
