Interesting stuff Gus Subjectively (in my minds eye or whatever) the 250 is more cushy than the 270. More specifically, the 250 is less controlling than the 270 (metashank maybe, or just the higher drop/stack height?). The only issue I find with the 250 is the heavier upper takes longer to dry once wet + more overlays in the front. Oh, and they aren't as 'normal' fit as the 270 in the toe box. For completeness my 270 are on 500 miles and the 250 on 100, so could be wear compression in the mid sole. For a mile or two the 250s are OK on road, you don't feel the 'studs' at all. Out of the two I seem to be reaching for the 250 more often, and I've ordered a second pair which I haven't for the 270. I don't think either will work well in sloppy conditions as shown in the photos - unless it's the sole not clearing compacted mud that's the problem. HTH |

RH it's the 212 I use. Did try a pair of 190s a couple of years ago, loved them and wore them up to 38 mile mountain trail race. They were like a pair of slippers but i destroyed them in less than 250 miles. Most of that was pretty rough going but the uppers were almost biodegradable and I'm not normally someone who wrecks shoes (1000+ miles out of a pair is quite normal).

FWIW I have the X-Talon 212's (normal fit) which are wider than the precision fit version. I absolutely love them. Used them for Fellsman and Days 1 & 2 of Dragon's Back which is some of the muddiest, boggiest, rockiest and most technical terrain you'll get in the UK Each of those days was 17-18 hours and I had no problems with them and they still look like new. Run with them on the road though and you'll wear down the tread VERY quickly, I can almost hear pound coins falling onto the tarmac! |

The x-talon 200s are a bit more robust than the 190s (which I loved but lasted 50 miles), and more minimal than the 212s (flatter and more flexible). They still only lasted 200 miles, but I ran the Lakeland 110Km in them straight out of the box with no foot problems. The 212s are my current compromise shoe... not as comfortable as the 200, but last a lot longer. I have a bunion which splits the fabric of most shoes, so don't assume my mileage for a pair of shoes is typical. |

When you say the standard fit are wider than the precision, is that all foot or just the forefoot/toe box ?

Definitely the toebox, not so sure about the midfoot and heel to be honest... I tried the precision fit and they squashed my feet, the standard fit is perfect though. For info - I'm a forefoot runner and generally use low-to-zero drop shoes with wide toeboxes, (Altra Lone Peaks / Olympus). So, if they fit my feet I'm sure they'll be fine for anyone who's having problems with the precision fit. |

I seem to have enough new shoes to keep me happy for some time, at some point I shall review and blog, but at the moment struggling to see how roclite 280s can feel so very much lighter than 315s 35g is nothing surely anyways, I am reading Andy Mouncey's "so you want to run an ultra" and am really enjoying it so far -especially his repeated comments about women being more likely to finish, pace more evenly etc. Would be very interested if any of the experienced ultra bods who lurk here have any comments re the book/his approach/philosophy |
