I don’t mind cold. It usually comes with many hours of darkness which is dull. Going through beautiful places with a tiny cone of light seems a waste

Badwater tomorrow. And these high temps don't even tell the half of it. Thanks to Chris MacDougall, this was the ultra that first piqued my interest. twitter.com |

Running alone through the mountains at night is one of the most life-affirming things I have done, but I concede it's not for everyone. |

True. But I enjoy a 10pm-4am night more then a 5pm-7am one… Night section of Lakeland 100 and UTMBs are amazing. Thames Path not so much… |

Having done mtb 24hr races . I struggle between 1am and 5am bur beyond that I'm happy in the dark. Prefer being warm to being cold but will take either ahead of being wet. |

I have done a couple of runs that have gone through the night and I don’t mind running in the dark if I feel safe, the wall the route on dark hours was in some remote areas and had I not been running with a fellow Waller I would have felt uncomfortable in parts. I did Kielder dark skies running through the forest on my own knowing others were in the vicinity even if I couldn’t see them I felt safe enough. I’d love to have more confidence to run solo at night. Is there a dot watching / tracker option for badwater? |

Mr. K.
The night sky in Arizona is so great. The wildlife out there is something completely different esp the noises they make at night....some don't even make noise! |

For nightrunning in general, my personal favourites are a clear sky and full moon and being able to run in the wild without a headtorch. And secondly, when you do run with a headtorch, the reflection of animals eyes in the bushes.

Prefer cold to hot, don't mind the dark. Rather stay dry. I wouldn't enter a long race this time of year (she says, with a 50 miler next weekend with the forecast saying 25 degrees.) I've only used my water proof trousers twice while running, once during HM55 on the 'Beast from the East' edition and this year on the Fellsman. I had ALL my clothes on by the end of the Fellsman - including my down jacket, a hat and buff and I got through 3 pairs of gloves. Yuk. I can only remember being too uncomfortably cold on a handful of runs. Whereas being far too hot I can think of far more occasions. There is something magical about a good headtorch run. Everything is in monochrome. |
