They've closed up the gaps between swimmers' start times compared to last year and so I shall probably be giving way again and again over the 16 lengths of the swim. Then they've had to change the run of the route because last year's out and back is currently under several feet of the River Severn. So instead we're doing 5x 1km laps of the field behind the leisure centre. Apparently (and I don't doubt it for a minute) the terrain is all grass and 'very soft/muddy underfoot.' Can you imagine what it'll be like after 50+ runners have done 5 laps each This is precisely why I don't do XC.

Through security, after baffling them by having my studded belt rolled up in my jeans in my bag. Time for coffee. Sam has very thoughtfully booked a hotel in Cardiff with a pool, though, so slight swimbling may occur later.
