Stewart, I'm no wise sage on getting the best out of yourself in a short race (have been discussing off line with Gobi as I'm Mr One Pace Sweetspot and will be mixing things up while there is no IM on the horizon), but there is a british cycling warm up protocol worth checking out. britishcycling.org.uk I..ve built this as a Zwift custom workout so I don't have to remember it. Other thing is longer the race the shorter the warm up. |

You wouldn't do efforts before a short race, ride yes, progressively possibly, a few cadence leg sprints just to get the legs loose but nothing that constitutes an actual effort :¬) So I have been speaking to TRO, I race on a Tuesday and Thursday morning and I was thinking of setting up a meet up around 1800 on the same evenings to do some efforts. If people are interested then follow me on Zwift and I will invite you - I'm Lord Orange for those who don't know. Ride will be about an hour on a zwift loop of a few kms so Volcano or volcano Ccm or Duchy, mix of hard laps and short efforts. Let me know. |

mmm , interesting read TRO - a lot of people cannot do 120 RPM but I think the principles are similar to mine.

RE: Warm ups, for run tapers and pre-race I used to always and was told to keep the speed sessions (tapers) and do some race pace strides (warm up). Is this similar?

Okay you need to separate what you are talking about Pre race warm up - get loose maybe dynamic stretch , do a couple of casual accelerations(strides) Taper - drop volume but keep speedwork in Strides are not speedwork Strides have no place in an easy run |

Thanks guys lots to contemplate, TRO thanks for the link I don't think I could manage some of the higher cadences as I would be bouncing around a fair bit. A good idea to create a workout I will definitely be do that. Gobi, thanks for clarifying, no more hard efforts before short races and I'm going to give that warmup a go next time out. re easy runs when I was fit I followed P&D for the marathon training I've done and they tend to put strides in their General Aerobic runs which I tend to think of as a slightly longer easy run, I take it that you would discourage this as it has a different focus to the session which would be building endurance? |

Good afternoon fellow triaffleet types. I wondered if perhaps you had rooms available in your hotel?
