Well that was a barnburner of a weekend
Friday: 5 mile local runny race, 32:15.
Saturday: Tour of Cambs Chrono (closed road TT, UCI event with Qualification slots for the UCI World masters in Italy). I'd done this a couple of times 3/4 years ago and qualified quite easily in M45-49 not taking the slot either time. I wasn't going to take one this time as it clashes with IM wales and converting your bike to UCI regs is an utter ballache, but still wanted the slot to turn down.
Just finished warming up and my front tub blew. Disaster! Shot back to the car where I did have a spare front wheel - slower, clincher with a heavier tyre so stuck that on and rolled off to the start, making it, just....rode hard but frenzied, assumed I'd got a slot so waited around for the Qualifier medal....and I'd made the last slot by 6 seconds. Standard of this event has shot up now its established, I'd ridden well and put time onto some guys who normally have seconds between us, so I wasn't shit. Some very good riders missed out, standard is now like the CTT Nationals.
In hindsight I was a bit casual, but now know what it is, entered next year and will have to make it a priority event.
Then straight off to stay at my mum's and the Thorpe Park Sprint Tri. I'd entered this as a little sharpener, only to find it was one of the nominated GB world qualifiers and the Triathlon England National Championships. 750 swim - disappointing in 13:57 (maybe a bit long?), decent transition and flying mount, biked really well, another solid transition than ran myself ragged. Thought it was a good effort, but found myself 17th in AG :-O, only 4 mins off the winner but loads of blokes ahead. I'd outbiked the top 3, but gone backwards in every other leg....:-(. Good fun, a little humbling, pleased with the uber-bike, shame I can't swim and run as well....
Great weekend overall, loved it.

You should have popped in and said hello. Thorpe rides right past my house.

Nice racing TRO.
I really need to work on my running. I was 42 after the (shit) swim, 67 after the bike but only 5 minutes off and then I ended up 20 minutes back at 82 in the end.
Pleased though, really. Haven’t trained at all consistently but still have a deep base hiding in there somewhere. I’m encouraged to build on it.
Must lose some weight too.

You should have raced it then Ginge....;-). My mum lives down Norlands Lane, just off the perimeter of the park...

TROuser-festival, lots of whining going on on the club facebook page 'cos there was loads of drafting. Were you equally perturbed by it?
