I just hope that the weather is better than the Giro.
Disappointed for Wiggo and with Nibali going for the Vuelta I can't see Wiggo being able to win that either as a save similar to 2011 after W had the Tour accident and then went to spain.

What makes you say that PL? I could see why he is struggling to motivate himself after last year but surely the withdrawal from Giro and TDF were unavoidable?

Giro withdraawl was unfortunate - jury out on the TdF withdrawal

Could be that he wasnt ready - but even if not ready to win, he couldnve been a great part of the team to get a 2nd british winner

Maybe he didnt want to be part of a team

I think PL may be right too, just wondered if I had missed something concrete as it seemed quite a categorical statement?

My wife said that Wiggins will retire. Two days ago she told me that Matt Smith was going to leave Dr Who... need I say more?

Nope TT, but Shane Sutton's statement on Wiggo certainly seems to hint that something is going to give:

guardian.co.uk

Speaking to a cyclist I know and he said Wiggins was obviously heavier than last year, and the fighting talk before the Giro was completely hollow (much as several have said here). Skipping altitude training camps and the like, first illness, then injury, let's see if the Vuelta or World Championships tempt him, if not, then retirement could beckon.

I suspect the knee is injury is a footballer's groin strain as touted by most premier clubs when international duty is around. Brailsford is ruthless and always knew after last years tour froome is the best chance of a win, wiggo out.

he is a 4k track rider who has risen well above his ability to win the tour, a great rider but I suspect it'#s taken it's toll. Even david millar says wiggo does not have the tour mentality.
