Looks like there wasn't a puncture, only brake problems which started at 30km and a communication error.

I've been having a look at the teams in this TDF, and comparing them with the teams I watched when I first started watching cycling in 1993. It's difficult 'cos they're named after sponsors so it's difficult to follow continuity.

Now, it turns out that Caisse D'Epargne is Banesto, Rabobank is Wordperfect (which I think I'd worked out) and Columbia is Deutsche Telekom. Are there any others still out there, or were they cast asunder by the drugs scandals?

Yeah I saw Franck go down live, it was awful, but didn't have sound so didn't know if he'd got back on or not. Tyler Hamilton did the same thing a few years back and continued I remember? And finished top 10?

Is Geraint in white now? Bloody well should be after that performance, he's having a flyer. I notice there are a few submarines moving upwards in the GC quietly along with Wiggo, not commented on but Vino and Menchov both had quietly solid days in the second group. Menchov won the Giro last year and didn't race it this year because he wants Le Tour to complete his Vuelta, Giro collection... I don't think he'll win, but I think he's a definite dark horse.

Can't see Menchov doing much. He's been the invisble man since he won the Giro! Geraint is in white now, and well deserved too. Hope he keeps hold of it as he's riding superbly at the moment

deegee you need to look at who is the driector sportive of the teams, as they are often the owners of the team.

boy wordperfect team goes back a few years!

omega were lotto from belgium.

got me thinking now.

menchov has been injured and ill, but today he put in a good ride, don't discount him.

I think Banesto became Illes Balaers before becoming Caisse. Were US Postals riding in 93? If not who would they have been before that?

Who would Liquigas or Lampre have been?

I watched first in 97, remember teams like Polti and Saeco Cannondale, Boulangerie (now AG2R I think) and Casino riding.

Think Cipo was with Saeco.
