Lili - Chris didn't mean it like that, just means he has had to drop out.
Lurking on cyclingnews it seems Contador had a mechanical in the last 3km.

Ok, NOW I understand about cobbles.
I had imagined those flat setts you get in European town centres. Not really rough, worn, grass growing through, narrow road with horrific camber!
Just watching the highlights

Crazy stage! Top marks to Evans and Andy Schleck for going for it. Real bad luck for Armstrong though, about 15 seconds ahead of Contador and catching the Evans Schleck group when he punctured. Pretty tough of Chavanel too loosing yellow after 1 day just because of 2 bike changes as far as I could see.
Hushovd looking like hanging on to green now and deservedly so. Real gutsy riding from him the last 2 days to be in the mix at the finish

Great stage - we should have more of those on the tour - not have to wait 6 years. Cobble riding is an essential skill in that part of France. And since they have removed a time trial, it redresses the balance for the power men. Just a shame we didn't see the field detonated yesterday in the Ardennes too. Boring flat sprinter stages do nothing for the racing, stages need to have more scope for action and attacking riding. Today we got it.

great stage.
but really sorry for the broken schlek brother... good to see the difficult riding but not good to see anybody put out with injury.

Today we saw the start in Wanze and the last cobble section. TV does not really show how fast they ride these things.
Awesome

TD - If Contador punctured in the last 3km, he should get the same time as Vino, which means what Vino did makes sense.
