I saw you a couple of times JJ and you looked good every time - far better than I was at that point. I think I'd even quit by the time I saw you last.

Really enjoyed my first go at this event - with a scratch team formed in the last 3 weeks after so many club mates bailed.

I ended up with 5 laps - need to double check times, but I think range was 49-55 so delighted. Had to talk myself into the 5th, but after my wife had talked herself into her 3rd I was so impressed! She did her first 10k at the start of June, and then pushed out 3 for this - the rest of the team had pretty much fallen by the wayside by then. All helped us make it to 24 laps.

Lessons for next year - warmer sleeping bag and more clothes overnight - we were cold in the tent!

Yes, the cold was a surprise to me too. I had a leg at midnight, so I went up to the handover zone an hour earlier so I could just sit in the catering tent.

Next year I'll pack less food and another hoody.

Huge thanks to the Cult of the Eternally Deluded for letting me join their team at the last minute. I had a fantastic time with great teammates. With just coming back from injury wasn’t sure how I’d managed but I did 5 laps and all under 60 mins. Took it very steady in the night laps as I’m a bit of a woos (sp?) and was afraid of falling over. I think I might have even managed the 5 laps in a total time of few seconds faster than last year! I love this event and cant wait for next year. Here's a team pic from the end of the race. I must also say a huge thanks to Barbara who I replaced for all her catering and general helping out/support with food/bringing drinks/food/clothing to the end of laps - she was amazing.

My only gripe is the catering tent - they really need to get that sorted with more staff for during the night as there were huge queues - the staff were also not the happiest bunch of workers I've ever come across!

Legs feeling surprisingly OK today – a bit tired and I feel sleepy but apart from that all OK and no trouble at all from former injury ☺

Here's a team pic at the finish of the event:

Fenland Runner - yes in answer to your question - I only did 5 laps but 2 & 4 were quicker than 1&3!

I thought the route was tougher this year too - especially that final hill - I definitely preferred it though - the bit around the field near the end was always my least favourite bit so pleased to see they took that out. Despite the final hill being a killer I think I preferred that as it then meant a nice fast final downhill sprint/hobble to the finish of each lap!

It was tougher but more so towards the start. I bet that long steep downhill just after 1K caught a few people out. The first half of the course generally was lumpier. The steep downhill sections were starting to get REAL painful once my knee started playing up again.

Yes I loved the downhill and around bend to the finish you could really bump up speed and make it look like you were skyways running at that pace !!

Thought the showers were great. Food tent the queue was always huge whatever time
Of day I popped my head in. So I would just go back to caravan and stick kettle on instead !

Having Barbara (Quiet Fetchie - Badger) as skivvy and slave really helped us. We didn't have to worry about cooking or queuing at the food tent. She was a real treasure and just as important to the team as the runners.

I loved the steep downhills - I'm not bad at descending and in early laps I made up places every time.

Thanks for the pic Jovi. You were a great team member :)
