Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Big G - seems that MP is where it should be, good timing too.

Good luck to Rcouture and Ian in their respective half marathons tomorrow. I'm assuming they're doing different events.

Gym done and I even managed to do the full 20 minutes on the treadmill, walking at 10% incline.

Thanks Shades-I ran on Thursday and felt a soreness in my lower back,it was causing me to limp so I stopped and just ran 4,took 2 days off and it seems fine again.I did have a poor run on Weds so it may have been the start, hopefully couple of rest days has got rid of it.
Looks very cold today,2° feels like minus 2,but no rain and not too much wind, just need to run fast to warm up.

Ian good luck, hope the back was just a niggle. As long as it’s dry I don’t mind it being that cold for racing (also hopefully not too much standing around).

Rcouture hope you have a good half.

Shades your rest days from running seem harder work. Can’t remember the last time I used more than 1 incline on the treadmill.

WP enjoy your child free routes, I don’t run that often during rush hour and forget how annoying the prams and kids are taking up the paths 😝

Got my assignment in, doing an open masters but am a bit behind. Two months left (2 assignments) on this module on law, car and human rights. It’s a tough one as not studied a law module before. Need to get myself back on track over the next couple of weeks.

Just the one run during the week and then 13 miles to parkrun mainly along lovely tarmac disused railways. A newish event near St Albans, Oakland College ran in the school grounds, it’s a multi-terrain, mainly two lapper and the muddiest I’ve ever done. As I left a bit late I ran a bit faster than I wanted and my legs were tired and as I stopped my calves were on fire. Took about the first half a mile to warm up! Bit further up I recognised someone ahead of me… it was Cal. Ran with her for a bit before I needed to stop and tie my shoelaces before losing a shoe. Then caught back up and had a quick chat. Finished in 33.29 quick stop off at garden shop for a coffee then a lift back home only to drive elle back to St Albans for a bottomless brunch. Rather than just drive home and back i decided to have a wander round the cathedral and did a tour where they were housing a piece of art called the moon.

Good luck on the assignments, Rob. Nice run there and good to catch up with Cal. I did message her a few weeks ago about the forum here but I don’t think she’s keen on the ads.

9.5 miles today on an undulating, country route and had a decent run out. That’s 39 miles this week. Not sure what I’ll be doing the coming week - probably I’ll run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then it’s a travel day Thursday. Not sure about if I’ll run Friday/Saturday but I’ll figure that out when I get there :)

Ian - hope your back is OK for today's race.

Rob - it's all part of my gym plan, after upper body session it's either that Stairmaster or walk on the treadmill on 8-10% incline. The first time I used the treadmill I set it to 8 and thought that's easy, then realised I'd set it to 0.8 🤣

Well done getting your assignment in. I did a bit of law when I was doing some accounting studies, I loved it but you need a good memory🥴

Lovely pic.

Big G - if Cal subscribes monthly to Fetch, even a small amount the ads are removed.

What's the forecast for Seville?

Had a good run today. Only 4 weeks to my marathon and nearly 2 years since my last marathon so I thought I out to try and run a little further than 10 miles, my usual Sunday distance. Did 13.5 miles, had a good run, negative split and I felt stronger in the latter miles. Pleased as I know that I can at least get to halfway in the marathon 🤣

53+ miles for the week.

Well thats tour de zwift completed normally and just 2 to go to do the ultimare challenge. Today's was longest by difference and between today and Friday's one those were my 3rd and 4th biggest total climb ones too. Friday's and today's totalled about 4 hours between them as well. 150 odd miles for the month so far and about 65 miles on top of last weeks 70 miles.

Weather warms up finally mid week so planing to do the shorter of the two left tomorrow then Wed or Thur for the other and some running Wed too. Pondering a 10 mile race on Sunday just waiting to see if the warmer stuff is staying and more to the point as it can be quite exposed what the wind is doing.

Weather looks like it could be around 10-18ish, and a high of 20ish later in the afternoon. 😎 A tad too warm for me really - as everyone knows, 8deg is perfect for me :) But it’s not looking like it’ll be sweltering hot and hopefully it’ll stay relatively cool in the first couple of hours of the race. Saturday looks like there may be some light showers, but dry and a light breeze on Sunday. So good conditions really.

Yeah, Cal does know she can donate even only a small amount to get rid of the ads.

Rob: I love the photo of the moon! Nice running as well as your assignment.

Shades Wow 13+ miles for you well done :) 4 weeks for your marathon boy that has come around quickly.

I ran five miles this morning and I felt stronger first two miles super slow but pace picked up after that.I am hoping I can build my fitness levels up.

Weight wise I have STS since NYE which is good news in one way but would like to see it drop again.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
