It was meant to be starting from the April 2020 edition, but I think there was something else we had to do in order to gain a place (well the age printed on our backs). Doesn't make a whole lot of difference, and I'll be glad of being able to spot ages of people as that is normally a good motivator knowing you are overtaking youngsters towards the end.
Less good when a v80 goes past you of course.

I managed to scrape up an old man podium at the Birmingham marathon once. Can’t imagine troubling the gfa scorers at London but as always I’ll be giving it everything. I wonder if there’ll be an extra cost?

No extra cost, but we get two medals at the finish line.
I have a vague recollection that the initial plan was that the top X% would get to "win" the opportunity to pay excessive fees to enter some other marathon, but it wasn't another of the majors.

You'd think they'd wait until there was a bit more normality - how many overseas runners are going to be able to make this year's race? Typical late announcement too - wonder what else is to come. I do regret missing out on the opportunity for a different medal and something other than the usual age group win/place memento.

I can't remember how it was initially meant to be held, but think it was across the other majors as well so foreign runners would be running their local major and never in one single race. The London marathon version was always going to be won by British runners as there is very few international places available compared to the other majors.
