Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

RF, I have to say, we went up and over Stelvio Pass the other day, and everyone was very respectful. Loads of cyclists, motorbikes, sports cars, us in our campervan, and a few other vans. People pulling over for faster traffic, waves, friendly toots of horns, etc. Also people on roller skates ‘skiing’ up. It was a great atmosphere at the top actually, with lots of chat, coffee drinking etc. I did pity the coach driver coming up the ‘easier’ side of the pass though. Nightmare journey in a coach. Anyway, this is nothing really to do with this thread :)

Stelvio is fab!

When I retire, I get two ponies and a buggy, so I can go shopping in town without a car 😎

P.S. I cycled up Stelvio, and down it... You pick up a lot of speed on mountain passes descending!

Defo H. Big_G - Stelvio looks wonderful. Always tempting to be reckless on a descent on a bicycle. Roller skates would be even madder!

Roller skates totally crazy! I daren't imagine the heat that builds up nor the effort it takes skating up! It was hard on a bike and even our car actually struggled, overheating!

This was me, one holiday, doing the daily run down to the village for fresh bread, milk etc...

I have always said I get a couple of ponies and an off road buggy that can be covered in bad weather, when I retire...

Re: AEVs.

I've been banging on about this for a while now

It'll happen faster than you think. And it's tied in with multiple disruptive technologies: electric vehicles, battery tech, renewable energy and "on demand" services

The combination means it'll likely happen v quickly. I'm still expecting electric vehicles to be dominant on UK roads by the mid 2030s. By the late 2030s, they'll likely be largely autonomous with an "on demand" system. Certainly no later than 2040.

And I anticipate staying out of that completely, so when I get rid if my (clean, frugal) petrol car in 10 years time, I go horse power and public transport. Horse power locally, where there is no public transport.
Think of the poo as byproduct for my garden ;)

About This Thread

Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
