Re the cycling/running comparison - I think it largely depends what type of runner/cyclist you are, how willing you are stay just in your grid, what type of grid you are in ie terrain/path coverage and where you are in the league. In an hour of exercise I might run 10k (at 4 points a square) or I might cycle 20k (at 2 points a square) so from that point of view quite balanced. The cycling has an advantage of greater coverage which works well lower in the league as many squares are left untouched and so it sweeps them up however this is of less use higher in the league as running 4's can dominate more especially for those who can run longer distances.

Snail, I agree. For me the cycling/running also is quite balanced just as you point out.

mr d - Tsk (as my mother used to say) - what are you like ;)

Don't know how much difference it'll make - I'm on a post marathon recovery week then away all weekend so the chances of me doing anything remarkable are even more limited than usual. We'll see how it goes.

Bob!
I'm a fairly recent joiner in on this game. My one question is:

Why is running early better, Why double points for being the first runner of the day, surely all running is equally good?

*waves at snail*. Sorry, I would have said hello but I didn't know you were a poster. I'd better try to play catch-up, although I'm pretty sure that you've nabbed some inaccessible ones already! :)

I can see both sides of the argument Bob, having to log first adds a certain frisson and competitive edge to the game.

Had my legs run off by JCB last week

Welcome to Oranj this week, i expect to get Tango'd

Snail - you are right, it depends upon what type of cyclist/runner you are. In my case I went out yesterday and did 15k on grid in 33 minutes which is about 3 miles in 11 minutes. That's roughly 3 times my running pace when I am doing WSW. Hence my suggestion of a 3:1 ratio. If a 2:1 ratio suits more people then fair enough.

Corona - yes, many cyclists will head straight out of the square but some people only cycle and quite reasonably cycle within the grid in order to play the game. Nothing wrong with that I hasten to add.

My interest is to promote a level playing field :-)

On that note, I am now leaning towards the double points for first to a square to be scrapped. Some people cannot run early while other people can. This not only gives them an advantage but confuses the heck out of every new game player!!

I'm still plugging my idea of having double points for either being the first or last person to log their training that day (to avoid excessive cake) but to randomise which gets double points each week. ;)
