On your recent OCT? I bet you could do that descent a dozen times and not do it the same way twice, it really is a hell of a way off the mountain.

Yes - the OCT. The strava flybys showed we took a unique descent which did include some climbing down rather than a lovely flowing run down. :).

Nice NE. Really hated the Pike but thinking about bobbing up Scafell again later in the week to have a go up Lord’s Rake. I always find it’s easier to read about something once you’ve been there but now need to go back!

Was a bit more moody over in that direction this morning. Looking over that way from Middle Fell here. Stayed lower today as rain was forecast. It didn’t rain at all….

And here’s a pic of Greendale Gill from the side of Buckbarrow. In itself the Gill is a lovely thing but the pic is mainly to show the Bracken growth 😂.

We did see the idiot side of tourism in Wasdale over the weekend.

The NT site is amazing, almost a perfect setting, but it did attract a group of ‘lads’ who were there to climb Scafell Pike.
Unfortunately they were stereotypical Essex boys in voice and appearance and they lived up to stereotype.

Every 2nd word was fuck. They pitched a one man tent between three of them, having to buy the pegs they forgot to bring. Drank beer, had a bbq, got told off for having a fire. They then buggered off about 2 hours later in the camper van they drove up in.

They came back at 07:00 the next morning, used the toilets/showers, made a load of noise. Had breakfast by their van and buggered off again. Leaving some kit and a half collapsed by the rain tent.
They are advised by the staff that due to the cloud and forecast rain that Scafell Pike might not be a good idea. I heard one of them say it looked ‘cushty’ .

I wonder what happened to them?
If they did get lost and have to call MRT out they wouldn’t need a grid ref or a gps location, they could just locate them by voice.

They were quite loud to say the least. I think there were quite a lot of relieved parents when they disappeared due to their flowery language.

Wasdale really was showing it’s finest views over the weekend. Bloody marvellous place. I added no peaks to my list as I was on abandoned wife looking after the dogs so Dave could train duty 😉 😀 Really enjoyed the drive back over Ulpha way afterwards too and the Duddon Valley - needs more exploring!

Early July my son's got 6 nights at Wasdale Head YH for his mountain leader training course. It's 41 years since I stayed there (one night at Wasdale Head, next night at Black Sail Hut :) ) - not at all jealous!!

About 40 years since the only time I stayed at Wasdale Hall YH too - the day my mate and I learned the perils of using old, out of date maps.

The map we had borrowed from his Dad showed a Youth Hostel in Wasdale in an altogether different building up the side of the hill somewhere - we probably spent the best part of an hour searching in the rain for it before checking our YHA handbook and learning the correct location muppet
