and whilst we're on the topic - how do you get to Whin Rigg (Lorton/Fellbarrow) without climbing a barbed wire fence? |

You shouldn't have to do that. Which direction did you climb up from?

I've just pulled up BaseCamp to see which way I went. Do you mean Whin Fell, as in Hatteringill Head? I did an out-and-back from Fellbarrow, crossing a wall/stile just to the north-east.

I did Hatteringill from the track up from the Lorton-Mosser old road - but the Whin Fell lump before it was completely surrounded by barbed wire fences

Viewranger in auto mode won't plot a line between Hatteringill and Whin Fell, wants to take you back on the road! Some people on hill-bagging.co.uk mention walls and barbed wire blocking the route up from the Whin Fell road too Rosehip!

not just me then Because I could see it from the cottages kitchen window, I tried a wander one evening and hopped over a (seriously padlocked) gate from the Lorton-Mosser track, but over the first little rise from there was another bw fence. So I gave up! |

Honister Slate Mine have just launched another 'experience', you can now have afternoon tea or camp overnight on a Portaledge anchored to Fleetwith Pike 500' above the pass! Access is via the infinity bridge and an abseil down. They don't say how you get back out?? |
