Hi all, OH and I are thinking of going over to France in the campervan to take in a couple of Tour de France stages. Having never done it before, I was wondering if there is any general advice on how to plan it? For the stages, do you stay on the side of the road the night before? If we went to a Time Trial, which tend to start/finish in towns, do you book a hotel for those, or park the van somewhere and travel in? Very generally, how early do you have to get to the stages to get a reasonable spot and how early are the roads closed? Is something like Alpe d'Huez pretty difficult to get to in terms of getting a decent spot?

Lots of questions, but any tips would be most welcome :)

(I have posted the same question to the Pro Cycling thread so apologies if some of you see this twice).

MM, a friend of ours has a place on a stage that they went past this year, and you could see their house on the coverage. We have been invited over too, but the route isn't going past this year. Maybe we will go there another year.
