Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Other than that, spot on! Might get some for my friend who has a cat called Claude... Must find out if they grind their own beans or not first...

I have just had a very interesting coffee (on offer at Sainsbury’s ) at the moment.

Ueshima Fuji Mountain blend they also sell an house blend. apparently it’s Japans no 1 coffee. Whatever that means.

This blend (it doesn’t specify a variety, region or country of origin) is a very dark roast and certainly fits the description of bold and intense but it has extremely low acidity.

It is rather nice.

Was interested to see a few weeks ago that my local Tesco have now got a short section of shelving badged as "Craft Coffee". As well as some beans from less mainstream providers, they've got some 1kg bags of beans at decent value. Nothing earth shatteringly tasty so far (I've tried the Grumpy Mule espresso and the Taylors of Harrogate espresso) but a good option for a cheap daily driver.

I've also become that pretentious office colleague who grinds their own beans at work. I got a Timemore Slim handgrinder for Xmas intending to use it for travel, but I didn't like the thought of it just sitting idle most of the year round so brought it into to work to see if I could put up with the effort of hand grinding at my desk. Turns out it is pretty easy to do, and I'm now definitely getting a better cup of coffee combining that with my work aeropress. I'm not bothering with fancy beans, just that sort of stuff above from Tesco or Costco, but it is nice never to be far from a decent cup!

Nothing like that in our Tesco. In the small beans section there is Just their house blend espresso, the Lavazza Rosa and occasionally something else. Sainsbury has recently improved its offering with a wider choice including Union coffee and the Ueshima.

but once a month we have a farmers market which includes a roaster from Saffron Waldon called White House coffee, a business that exists with virtually no online presence. Recently I have started buying my coffee there, but it takes some planning so I use Sainsbury’s in case of emergency.

[IMAGE210604][IMAGE210602][IMAGE210603] Anyone got any tips on using my Moka Pot? I'm the only person in my household who drinks real coffee so I've had to figure out using it myself.

Yes I made the mistake of putting it in the dishwasher. Maintenance tips are also appreciated.

Has everyone had a go at Fetch's coffee survey for academic research, linked in his blog?
