Rhb indeed! I am an espresso fan but in the French press at work I used to use lighter roasts and a coarser ground. So many variables indeed in espresso. I have a proper machine but also use a stove top. Even between different stove tops there is a difference! Aluminium and stainless steel for example. I gave used ss for many years. You can taste it if espresso has been made in an aluminium Bialetti...

Just try different tamping pressure...
And that is only one variable...

Wow! I’m gonna start saving for a proper machine and a barista course…

I’ve given away my Krups grinder as I wasn’t using it enough. I buy small batches of beans locally and get them ground there. A coffee roaster has opened around the corner from me. I’ll investigate.

A proper machine (well my sage) was a game changer. I thought the Nespresso was good but now I wouldn’t consider going back. When this dies (currently 5 years old) I think I may go for something even more exotic but don’t tell Mrs T ( I hope she doesn’t read this thread!)

I have a Delongi... The smallest machine I could get that does make coffee properly. Setting it is a faff but the price of it and size of it make up for the faff. And once set to my taste, I have never had to change the setting.

Not sure who mentioned them, but I bought a couple of bags of coffee beans from Salford Roasters on the basis of their comment; first bag is really good (El Salvador el Molinito) as French press / V60.

I have just opened a kilo of Dutch supermarket Jumbo's own Punchy Espresso dark roast beans. Lovely, shiny, dark roasted that made a most excellent coffee this morning!
