Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sri Lanka humbled Oz with their record ODI victory over them. Very nice to see.

I was listing to Steven Finn and Tymal Mills on radio 5bthe other night. They said T20 is as far removed from 50 over cricket as 50 over cricket is from test matches. They thought the berthing to do was bin ALL 50 over stuff and have 40 over cricket instead. They both played Pro40, back early in their careers and though it was a better format.

On the one hand, each format needs to have some clear distinction to the next otherwise there’s virtually no point in replicating and having it in the first place.

On the other hand, I’ve regularly heard many pundits say there’s an extended period in any ODI innings which is virtually indistinguishable from the next innings and has almost no bearing on the result. I’ve turned it off now but this India-Bangladesh innings the same; even despite losing 5 cheap wickets they’ve managed to paddle round for however long. I don’t think a change to 40 overs would make much difference to the game at all and probably make it more exciting.

Finn and Mills said the exact opposite. One white ball, you get reverse swing, no fannying about.
