thank you, all. My daughter is very grateful. Do pass it on to other dog-owners if it feels ok to you.

Has anyone seen anything official about rules on walking dogs? I cannot see anything on the gov.uk website other than exercise. Does not mention dog walking at all.

I think animal welfare comes under exceptions in the Scottish guidance but can't speak for the English rules - sorry!

Any links to the case in England? I can only see: 'Animal welfare reasons – you can leave home for animal welfare reasons, such as to attend veterinary services for advice or treatment' |

I saw that but outdoor exercise is in that section too which is limited to once a day. I think that section is just for 'travel' reasons.

I don’t think I understand, sorry. If it’s a valid reason for travel doesn’t that imply that it’s a valid reason to be out full stop? I wonder if there are no specific guidelines because a) there aren’t THAT many dogs and b) it’s specific to each situation - if you have a 5 acre fenced garden and a chihuahua you might not need to walk it at all. If you have a 2nd floor flat and a Labrador you probably need to take it out several times a day.

I agree that it should but exercise is the bullet point above and that does have a limit - that section is just talking about what warrants travel to another place - not walking a dog from your front door. It would be nice for them to make it clear - even the dogs trust and rspca websites do not have any further info. |

This Express story is the only one that mentions dog walking and it lumps it in with part of your daily exercise: express.co.uk |
