This is the actual law: Exception 10: animal welfare (15) Exception 10 is that it is reasonably necessary for P to leave or be outside P’s home— (a)to attend veterinary services to seek advice about the health and welfare of a pet or other animal owned or cared for by P, or for the treatment of such a pet or animal; (b)to attend to the care of or exercise of a pet or other animal owned or cared for by P. There is also no actual always limiting exercise to once per day. (That I can find in the legislation) |

Just use your common sense re your dog's well being. (What Maz says) As long as we don't get into an Italian (?) situation where some poor dogs were exhausted from being 'borrowed' for walks! |

Last time Rory was so tired from both my dog walker and me walking him for longer than normal that eventually he refused to get out of bed in the morning! (Anecdotally my dog walker asked the local mounted policewoman (yes, really) about dog walking and she said it was fine.) |

Cheers Roberto. Just looked at the legislation myself and it was last updated in November so I guess it will be updated sometime soon regarding current laws. And Sharkie, I intend to get the dog out as normal but it would be nice to see something official - it only takes one awkward villager to get someone a fine!

Current legislation (being voted on today) is just amendments to the 2020 legislation. It doesn't change the part about the dogs, it doesn't have anything in limiting the amount of exercise and doesn't say you can't leave your local area. It is all advised things to do, and I would recommend doing them to mininise risk but they can't enforce it.

Some of that is in law. But they are very specific with their wording. Where it says 'should' tends to be guidance. Whereas they use 'must' for the legal parts etc

Cheers for that. I started a marathon plan last week and for the first time ever have double sessions so at least I 'should' not have to change that

The inside of Albie’s left ear flap is looking quite red compared to the other one. He doesn’t appear to be scratching it or worrying at it. Is it something I should get checked out? I’ve never done any of this before. He’s got a vet check up in 12 days for vaccine booster. He’s previously scratched his ears but vet couldn’t see anything. Now I can see something but he’s not been scratching it. |
