Thanks Pen - the tow I saw were dinks then! Long way to go to Jess - or Floss - weight. Jess is very lean and female GSDs are quite a lot smaller than males but she weighs around 33 kilos. Mind you Gimme Medals' Jess - a mastiff of some description - looks twice that! |

Sharkie - If they were tiny they might’ve been Italian Greyhounds. Cleo sometimes gets mistaken for one as she’s quite petite, but the Italian Greyhounds really are a different size altogether. en.m.wikipedia.org |

So the new lockdown rules say exercise outside once a day. I’m hoping dog walking is separate to this as Albie only does very short and slow walks and I take him out twice a day which seems to help occupy him. Does that mean I can’t now go for a run? (My sanity saver!)

Dog walking was alllowed as an extra in the March Lockdown, Pen. Suddenly everyone wanted a dog.

Are you sure Pen? The BBC says unlimited outdoor exercise. (But anyway I carried on walking Rory twice a day in March. No one seemed to mind.)

OH and I are having the same conversation Pen. In the first lockdown we took it in turns to walk Floss once a day and on the alternate days, ran or cycled. But she's not allowed 5 mile walks in one go again yet (still not signed off by the vet for another couple of weeks yet) so we're doing a morning and afternoon walk. That really wouldn't be enough exercise for either of us. I think dog-walking should be regarded as a one reason to leave home, and exercise a separate reason. Don't know for sure though! |

I’m going to interpret it like that as I live alone and taking him out twice a day saves a bored destructive puppy (who is already missing out on socialisation), and his walks (slow and less than a mile) are not exercise for me. I doubt anyone would challenge it 🤞

Have just checked - outdoor exercise and attending the care of an animal (eg exercise) are on separate bullet points. The wording of exercise outside once a day is “should” so sounds like a guideline. I’m taking that to mean I can do 2 walks with Albie as part of my care for him and if I want to or can (I can’t run every day anyway) I can do an exercise outside for me.

Skye gets at least four walks a day during school holidays ... only one with the kids, because she needs time away from them otherwise they send her loopy, poor thing.
