Really enjoying the videos on mybluprint.com that pandad linked. I going to start my first fairisle project (gloves) I need a recommendation for good on line wool shop. I’ve always bought from Toft in Dunchurch Warwickshire..but they are premium prices. I’ll be buying worsted or good DK in wool. Thanks! |

Is worsted a weight of yarn? I had it in my head that it’s between Aran and DK? Is that right?

This is where it gets complicated - worsted can be either a weight - indeed between DK and aran, or it can describe how the yarn is spun. A good place to start with judging weights is m/100g Lace/2ply typically 800m/100g Fingering/4ply 400m/100g DK 220m/100g Aran 150m/100g Ply can also refer to weight (mainly UK) or how many strands are in the yarn |

Oh. Many thanks for that information. I will look at the m/100g Fab. Thankyou 😀 ( I think I’m getting information from the US sites, and shopping in the UK. That seems fraught with a certain amount of confusion) |

US tend to refer to sport weight and worsted weight, we’d use DK and aran but I don’t think they’re identical. But then you’d need to do a swatch anyway.

My sewing machine emerged from its burrow into the light today for the first time in years. 6 or 7 years, I should think. First up was a peg bag, as the old one had pretty much disintegrated. |

As you can see, I didn't take a lot of care over the finishing (no nonsense about sewing in the ends). Primarily functional, but by no means undecorative. Mostly done by eye, rather than rigorous measurement. Next was a storage thing for fixed circular knitting needles. Also mainly by eye. Also not finished to the standard my sewing teacher at school would have approved of. It's OK. If I ever do another one, I'll make the pockets a bit deeper - 10cm is a bit shallow. |
