Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Just how many people whose role it is to work with data within a Financial Year, don't actually know which months relate to which quarter (I had to explain to someone yesterday that Q4 is in fact Jan-March, not Oct-Dec)

Why regional airlines, who are trying to attract customers after such a bad couple of years, have changed both cabin bag sizes and costs, and checked-in bag costs and weights, providing a baffling matrix of charges (distance, type of fare, weight, size, where the ticket was bought, how it was paid for, what fare, how you are paying for the bag etc). It definitely puts you off flying. Which I suppose is a good thing for the environment, but not for the airline.

I had what EasyJet call “speedy boarding “ which is a small suitcase and a handbag ideal for a weekend. What they don’t seem to get their heads around is that there is never space at the overhead lockers near the allocated seat and you have to go further down the plane, find a space then fight your way back to your seat against the tide of passengers. And the same again on landing. Making boarding longer than they have allocated time for.

How you can buy a house without having sold your house.
Conversely, how you can sell your house without having a house purchased to move into.

I can answer the egg question: Eggs produced by proper free range chickens kept in a spacious, natural environment should not be kept in the fridge! A chicken, in the wild, lays about 20 eggs in three weeks, then sits on them to hatch them. This means that fresh, unadulterated eggs last at least 3 weeks without refrigeration. However, most shop bought eggs are already "old" when they hit the shelves. They also often have been washed, as previously stated, to remove dirt, poo etc from caged animals. This removes the "bloom", a film of mucus that is on the egg when freshly laid. It seals the porous shell, making it stay viable longer. So almost all shop bought eggs have no bloom and should be consumed as quickly as possible. As they have no bloom, it is also highly likely that things like salmonella, rife in caged animals, has entered the shell so you should never eat them raw or soft boiled!

Sorry, poultry industry person here.
Egg washing is illegal in the UK, certainly for whole egg sold in a supermarket.

The hens have nest boxes to use, which are usually meshed so there isn't a pile of poo in there, so the eggs stay clean. This is true whether they are organic, free range or in colonies (they are the enriched cages, battery hens are a thing of the past- in the UK at least.)
Eggs are collected within 24 hours of being laid, usually much sooner. The eggs are collected for packing and distribution usually within 2-3 days.

Some bigger places have the eggs packed on site which means they can go from cloaca* to box in 24-48 hours.

They are not old by the time they reach the shelves.

You are correct though about the protective covering on the outside of the otherwise porous shell and that eggs should not be refrigerated.
