Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I can answer the egg question:
Eggs produced by proper free range chickens kept in a spacious, natural environment should not be kept in the fridge! A chicken, in the wild, lays about 20 eggs in three weeks, then sits on them to hatch them. This means that fresh, unadulterated eggs last at least 3 weeks without refrigeration.
However, most shop bought eggs are already "old" when they hit the shelves. They also often have been washed, as previously stated, to remove dirt, poo etc from caged animals. This removes the "bloom", a film of mucus that is on the egg when freshly laid. It seals the porous shell, making it stay viable longer.
So almost all shop bought eggs have no bloom and should be consumed as quickly as possible. As they have no bloom, it is also highly likely that things like salmonella, rife in caged animals, has entered the shell so you should never eat them raw or soft boiled!

Why washing machines won't let you open the door for 30 secs after the spin has stopped. I know why they have a safety feature, but the machine must know when it's stopped so why wait 30 secs?

[GG - my Hotpoint washing machine has an button that allows you to over-ride the lock and open the door straight away. Might be worth checking whether yours has too?].
