This is interesting - I wonder if road shoes will be revised down in the future: bbc.co.uk

Probably not as there's no reason it shouldn't have been done at this point. The dragonfly isn't affected by this BTW. |

A quick look at the list suggests it doesn't affect much at all which is probably why they've done it. Of course if they'd acted quickly with road shoes, the same would have been true but any change now affects the vast majority. |

Track is a special case, because you can change it to produce quicker times if desired: theguardian.com As with super shoes, some athletes will not get same boost and some will get injured. But...wOrLd ReCoRdS! |

Well track has always been like that (an optimised running surface that has constantly been optimised). It's not really the same as shoes.

That's a bit like thinking a pogo stick can make you bounce higher but there's no way a trampoline could help

No, lot really. There's a difference between interacting with something using your feet Vs something on your feet. I run on track but don't run in supershoes and would expect to be uncomfortable running in them given I don't run in thick shoes. Also I'd expect that even if the supposition was correct, the athletes in question are already road runners as this isn't a fundamental change to what a track is and is on the same continuum that they wouldn't have responded to anyway. |

Definitely agree there's a difference but I think both help. To me it's no longer obvious whether 20mm superspikes on a track is faster than 40mm supershoes on road. Would love to see what it's like to train on the Olympic track anyway |
