Trustpilot reviews suggest StockX is quite a frustrating experience. I think they do make an effort to sieve out fakes, as the seller has to send the product to StockX for authentication. But this can take weeks in some cases.

Negative reviews suggest there are chunky extra fees on the price you bought the item for (eg $175 product, $227 final amount)

You can get 25% off full price with Nike in your birthday month if you register on their site/app, that seems like the best value if you want VF etc.

eBay sounds less stressful than StockX, I know people who buy/sell the odd pair of running shoes on there and the buyer protection stuff seems to work well enough to make it trustworthy.

I was just reading this article about the over-60 woman's marathon world record holder (2:52), the extraordinary Mariko Yugeta - runnersworld.com - who runs incredible mileage for a 62 year old woman, up to 115mpw last August. It says in the article: "she trains in Nike Vaporfly 4% shoes, crediting the thick cushioning with enabling higher volume and better quality training without getting hurt, and she races in the Next%".

That's a very interesting point about the shoes enabling a higher volume of training without injury. It's been discussed on this thread before, but here's something which seems to back up the idea. I can only assume she's getting some kind of sponsorship from Nike, though, because the typical lifespan of the Vaporflies would suggest that on her mileage she'd need to get a new pair at least every 3-4 weeks, which at £200 or so a pop would work out rather pricy!

Of course, there will be much cheaper shoes which provide similar protection without helping so much with the speed, which is clearly not of such importance in training. I'm considering buying a pair of Saucony Endorphin Shifts to train in, to go with my Endorphin Pro race shoes.

I don't believe that J2R. None of the (other) pros wear vf for daily runs. In general, the greater the cushioning the higher the impact forces (e.g. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-35980-6), so it's likely that injury risk would be amplified rather than mitigated.
They do stop muscles aching though, as the shoe is doing the eccentric contractions for you.
I expect she's been asked to say something nice about the shoes.

You may be right, anthonyj89. I've always been a big believer in using as minimal a shoe as I can, and do a lot of my training in shoes with very little or no cushioning or support. I do wonder, though, whether the new shoe designs which came in with Nike 4% are different in this respect from previous cushioned shoes.

I have used Nike Free V3/5 and even ran 40 miles in a race in them. I'm still not sure about it all but the 4% are really comfy :¬)
