For road racing, all shoes are compliant. As they framed the rules around what was available.
Track racing is the big thing. Will be DQ'ed if you wear VF on track.
XC will need thought, as many road/trail shoes will not be compliant.

That's actually pretty significant! If I were running a track 5000m, say, there's a good chance I might wear my Saucony Endorphin Pros, but they are now banned for track (OK for road). That's going to catch some people out.

There are some odd distinctions within ranges - the Hoka Carbon Rocket is permitted for track but the Rocket X isn't.

They've been banned for awhile. UKA are just saying there won't be some special dispensation for local comps

The track limit from 800 upwards is 25mm so there won't be any odd distinctions unless you're saying the both shoes (or neither) are above 25mm.

The list is unlikely to be exhaustive it's simply about the measurements.

Max 40mm for road
Max 25mm for track 800m up
Max 20mm for track under 800m

SPR, yes, but at local club level people I don't think people really think these rules apply, so they may be in for a shock. I certainly know some people who were using Next% etc at the last set of track traces we had here. (Not that these shoes necessarily give them any benefit on track anyway, do they?)

I think the tempo next% breaks the stack height rule for road races, at least in some sizes. It's supposedly a training shoe, but I'd happily race in it if it were legal .

There's no reason why there wouldn't be a benefit on the track at 5000/10000, it's why people started wearing them on track. Spikes will be lighter and offset some of that. Of course there are now aggressive spikes with the tech within the prescribed envelope (assuming they will be available to the public soon if not already).

Last year I think there was no enforcement at local level. There was discussion about the rule applying but there was nothing about it being enforced. Going forward that changes.

I take your point that the runner that just jumps into the odd 5000/10000 may miss that it applies. Don't know what the answer is there but don't think it's to just ignore the rule.

From the IAAF document and some other google searching, it looks like the New Balance super spike is the FuelCell MD-X. Interestingly it's not listed as a development shoe which means it should be widely available but I've not seen it available for purchase anywhere (I noticed there's discussion about this on Letsrun).

It was a shock last year, in the the track races everyone was told beforehand they'd have to wear spikes or be DQ'ed. No-one had worn them for the best part of a year, so of course injuries ensued.
Same problems coming this year too. Races start the day tracks open.

AJLB - I seem to recall reading last year that measurements are done at a certain standard size ( can't remember what that was, let's say size 9 ) and if larger sizes (where the midsole is increased in thickness to keep proportions the same) are over the 40mm limit, then that's ok as long as the standard size is measured within the limit.

Hopefully I haven't just imagined that - anyone else recall that ?
