They're probably right it's essential. It's lighter and more springy so it's going to outperform other shoes that have everything but Pebax and I think every shoe can be improved by Pebax. If you're going for a shoe like this though, why would you go for anything other than the Nikes at this point? |

SPR, without having tried them, I'm a little put off by what I've read about the unusual feel of the Nikes (as well as the ridiculous price). From what I've read, the Saucony shoes seem to have all the advantages of the Nikes but are less 'strange' in use. I suppose also I have a bit of a natural aversion to following the masses, which is probably a bit daft in this context .

J2R - they do feel totally odd. Then you run a few miles in them quickly and it's like there was nothing different at all! Jump on board, get ready for departure! |

I guess if they weren't strange, they probably wouldn't be as fast? If they felt normal (even if you adjust to that normal quickly) then I'd be sceptical that there was anything inherently faster about them. Or is that just usual larkim bs?

Larkim - TBH I'd have thought the same but to me Nike has the data behind it, the others as of yet do not. I guess if any did publicly available research and it proved they weren't quite there, they'd be DOA.

larkim, from the tediously extensive reading I've been doing on the subject over the last couple of days, it seems that the strangeness is a side-effect, something else introduced into the mix rather than part of the actual beneficial effect. Could be (and probably am) wrong, though. I do get the impression, though, that of the shoes which have directly followed the Nike model of high foam stack and carbon (as opposed to different paths to the same end), only the Saucony shoes so far are being rated as possible Nike-killers. (Although maybe the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro shoes would be rivals too, despite their lack of Pebax, it's just that they came out after most of the reviews and articles I have read). Interestingly, what I'm after is something which will work for me primarily in the 10K to half marathon range rather than marathon distance. So it's quite possible that some of the lower shoes like the Asics Metaracer might work for me. Reviews of the Skechers GOrun Speed Elite Hyper look positive to me, but they don't seem to be available in the UK. |

lols @3388 Looks to me like the saucony might well match the nike. Contrary to most, I really don't think it's rocket science. The foam returns the energy, the more foam the better hence high stack with a bit of stability to make it usable. Others have been slow to catch on so far, either with low stack or the wrong foam. If there wasn't a limit to height, acrobatic stilts (the ones with springs in like pogo sticks) would work better still. |
