Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Since he moved up to the marathon he's had a history of calf injuries and DNS/DNF'd a few big events. Maybe they just exaggerated that?

It's not surprising that a very different shoe would cause a person with a history of lower leg issues problems TBH. Bekele's analysis of the issue seems spot on to me. It's the shoe combined with his history.

RoadTrailRun review the latest carbon plated "super shoe" from Hoka, the Rocket X
roadtrailrun.com

They've included a nice matrix of where all the carbon shoes fit in relation to each other in terms of softness/firmness and distance suitability

I have the NB 5280s and i agree they are great for shorter distances. i use them for 400 repeats. I haven't tried them for anything longer as they are pretty uncomfortable when you're running slower in them

Interesting. I've got a pair of the previous Hoka shoes, Carbon X. Although I've done little more than jog to the end of the street in them (still waiting to feel like I'm in race shape and deserve to wear them), they were quite firm for a Hoka.

From experience, what useful (propulsive) life can I expect from Vaporfly Next% and Alphafly? My resistance to the hype was finally broken and, disappointingly, they do allow me to run faster.

In other news, and being new to Nike wonder shoes, I've found that I can get on with plated shoes as long as I limit them to once a week at most; otherwise my feet ache and the sprung joy disappears. I'm including Saucony Endorphin Speeds in this grouping and have yet to try the Pros - the local running shop is expecting to see them in January. I tried the Tempo Next% under Nike's 30 day trial and just couldn't get on with them: a very firm AlphaFly geometry without the bounce and foot ache every time - for me, anyway.

The Skechers Razor Elite looks interesting: neutral, carbon plate and incredibly light. But, the full range of Skechers running shoes hasn't been available in the UK - Razor 3s were difficult to find and the interestingly light Horizon Vanish never appeared.

The Reebok Floatride Run Fast Pro isn't a carbon shoe (it uses pebax but there's no plate).

As far as I'm concerned, it's easily a 10k shoe (and I know it's been used for marathon) but not a shoe for those that want a lot cushioning

The NB5280 is a mile shoe. 5280 is the number of feet in a mile and was why the name was chosen.

The floatride Run fast2 i'd compare to the Adizero pros. Both are light and fast but probably a bit too firm. I really loved the run fast after my first try and got 2 more immediately. at £50 using a voucher they were a no brainer.

I tried the Tempo next% as a workout and easy running shoe for 3 weeks, i used them for all my runs and workouts in that period. I've had to send them back after 150 miles though as the soles have worn down to the airpods.

They aren't quite the 4%s as they are heavier, the bounce is there though.
