Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I wonder if the rule about being available to the public for a while prior to competition comes into play? They’ve hardly been easy to find...

WW/SPR there are quite a few differing opinions on the Tempo Next%. A few people like them as a training companion to the Alphaflys but there are a few that say they're too heavy, not enough feedback with the plastic plates in them, and not quite suited to wider feet. A few have actually sent theirs back to Nike.

I prefer to test for myself though, most people hated the Adizero pros but i really love them, which is why i can't wait to also test out the Adizero Adios Pros when they come out tomorrow.

Not sure about that - the shoes were on sale a few months ago although I agree they sold out quickly. It may not be the most representative sample because there were a lot of the local tarts out, but I did a definitely-not-a-race-group-training relay in August where 4 or 5 out of the 28 of us running had Alphaflies on. Also they're on the World Athletics 'approved' list dated 12 August, scraping under the 40mm limit by a whole 0.5mm.

I wonder if they're just not as good for short races as the Next%, it's entirely possible (in the same way that no steeplechasers wore the event-specific Nike Mamba 3 or 4, because it just wasn't as good a shoe as the Zoom Victory 2, or Maria Mutola wearing sprint spikes in the 800m).

[Sort of a cross post there, took me ages to type. The thing I'm "not sure" about is the legality or availability of Alphaflies.]

Yeah I thought it was a bit of a stretch. The shoes are so big and different that it’s possible they may not suit all runners so well. Especially if you might need a sprint finish. But I haven’t even seen them in the flesh so I’m just guessing.

Just got email saying they are on the way though!

I can't imagine anyone expects good feedback from a shoe with a 40mm stack?

Alphafly that were commercially released comply with less than 40mm in the US 8.5 size - therefore allowed to use for road racing. Kipchoge wore a prototype for the sub 2 event which would not have been illegal due to increased stack height.

For track events, you can have up to 20mm stack (up to but not inc 800m races) and up to 25mm (for 800m races and above)

So no more vaporfly/next%/alphafly in track racing as of a few weeks back.

Mo could surely have run in Alphafly yesterday if he wanted to, that can't be due to availability, in his case anyway.

*Kipchoge prototype would have been illegal under new rules (that event broke other rules anyway, it was just a marketing stunt - several runners would have gone under 2 hours under those conditions)

Weight weenies:

Next% green - 206g
Alphafly green - 238g
Tempo% - 265g

That’s weight of one shoe, with the standard lace.

The new Adizero that came out today is something like 225g per shoe.
