Okay, food for thought. I have a hilly marathon in April (so no PB attempt there), and another in May (flatter, but likely too warm for a PB for me), so I reckon Munich next October will be my main effort at a low 3hr attempt. That should give me an abundance of time to build the endurance on top of my current speed. Thanks all, really appreciate it! |

I have reasonably successfully converted from running 20 miles in 3hs15 to a 3.34 pb i.e. time in the legs and overall volume are important. For my next attempt, I will probably do some MP blocks in the week somewhere.

That's great to hear, Oscar. I'm aiming for a similar time for the 20 mile runs and that will probably do it for me. I did 20 miles with 4x 2 miles at MP in my preparation for Chester 2014 where I just ducked in under 3:35. I'm probably going to do something similar again.

Did my first run of the P&D, 7 miles with 10x 100m strides. That went really well. Overall pace was 9:05 and I was running mostly in zone 2, except the strides and the recovery after. It's encouraging to see that, even though I mostly ran 10-12 m/m in the base building phase, 9:00-9:15 pace is still in zone 2 and feels very comfortable. The strides got down to about 6 m/m and I felt in control. Is anyone else starting their plan this week? |

Not officially, I'll probably start in the new year but hopefully I'll hit the mileage for the next 2 weeks if nothing else.

My plan has started this week but I haven't Depending on work I may or may not enter the marathon I was thinking of. I wanted to improve on 3.29 but can't currently commit to the training. There is always the 12 week plan option available. |

Good plan, Oscar and Festive Flier. 12 weeks may be enough if you have decent base mileage to start with. I went with the 18 weeks because it gives me some structure and it makes me run longer midweek. I don't do that if I'm left to my own devices. The first week of the 18 week plan is in the books and I'm quite happy about it; ran 4 sessions plus 4 extra sessions for run the sum and with my beginners group, 51 miles in total. I'm going to blog about each week at the end of the week how it went. I want to document my progress and to compare it to my experience last year. fetcheveryone.com/blog-share.php?id=459888 |

I ran 31 of 33 prescribed miles. That'll do in Christmas week. Plenty of time to pick up the odds and sods. 😊 I'll check in on the blog, do keep posting it to keep us all honest.

Good work, OtG. And thanks for your comment. I hope I'll be as consistent with my running as I am with my blogging. Today was a longer read but the next weeks will be a bit more concise. If anyone else on this thread feels like blogging about their training, I'm happy to check it out. |
