HG, think I can picture where you mean. I dont recall it being challenging, but might need to re-rad my blog. I have a feeling I did report a slower mile about there and wondered if my race was falling apart, but I steadied the ship. Maybe that explains things and I didnt notice at the time

Funny, isn't it, that I remember a 'hill' (short and sharp), but the route doesn't suggest anything of the sort! There is a recurring lump but not really a hill... fetcheveryone.com/route-1796127

Here is an extract from my blog:

Mile 16 is 6:58 and I start to thing hm, is this the beginning of the end. However we had a windy stretch. I feel the stomach churn and decide to delay the mile 16 gel and see how I feel. I know I have 4 on board already so hope to be OK. Ultimately I didnt take another gel as I felt that would make me want to be sick and I stopped taking water as well as it was a faff and I didnt feel I needed it.

Miles 17 to 20 are back under the 6:52mm and I am averaging 6:47mm overall but try not to let myself get carried away as I havent even reached halfway yet.

Blog will follow in a day or two.

Got round Yorkshire Marathon in 3:18:00 today. First half went well, but the headwind on the long uphill drag around mile 17 wiped me out. Came close to walking a few times after that, but gritted my teeth and plodded on.

Given my lacklustre training, 3:15 was always going to be big ask. It may not have been pretty (6:43 positive spit), but itโ€™s 10 minutes quicker than Edinburgh earlier this year. Itโ€™s a solid post-cancer PB, and Iโ€™m happy with that.

If I can train properly for Manchester 2023, I can have another go at reclaiming 3:15 there!

Nice one Fergus

Looking like there's going to be quite a big group heading to Mancs next year ๐Ÿ‘
