See Bazo, TRs company does exactly the same. 1 day paid leave a week for 6 months before retirement. My company isn't so weird after all. (Well, it is, but not for that pre retirement run down policy!) G

(and in fact because I will have 40 years service it's 18 weeks at 1 day paid leave and the final 8 weeks at 2 days paid leave )

Wow, 40 years with one company TR. You deserve a medal. I have always moved every 3 or 4 years (either I get bored of them, or they get tired of me, let's not say which!) and can't imagine having worked for just one company throughout. I'm on 31 years full time working post uni. G

hahaha - I sometimes wonder what some of the youngsters think of me . Not only has it been 40 with one company, but 40 years working on the same software suite. Alongside coordinating the next release I'm also having to plan presentations on some of the more obscure/involved aspects of the tool (areas that are important but tend not to get worked on very often) in order to pass on my knowledge before I go.

My boss (of 1 year this time, but 3 years in a previous stint with same company 10 years ago - are you following?) retired a year ago, quite early, post Covid decision, part of the Big Retirement phenomenon. He left a great handover pack, really skeletons in the cupboard type thing. Was a great read! G

I'm reversing the trend and am in the throes of going back to the workplace 🙂 I've got a job for the County Council driving a minibus for disabled children and adults, only one day a week but I can work ad hoc hours whenever I can spare them. I've also got a small role as the governance administrator for a local charity, it's all pretty small beans but will give me some focus and keep me out of trouble. The money is derisory, but will pay for essentials such as boozing and gambling etc

Sounds good NE - I'm intending taking a few months just to de-stress, but will then look to see things I want to commit to on a regular basis

I have no great notion to go back to any sort of work but am starting to want to do something rather than nothing, which is an advance.

Sue hasn't reached that stage yet - it's been something like eight weeks.
I'm already there, as advertised - plan is to drop to 22hrs for a year or possibly two rather than retire.
