Thanks! I remember the summer of '76! My mum made my sister and me go to bed in the afternoons for a siesta. And there was a campaign about turning the taps off when you clean your teeth. Which I've done ever since. |

I remember that the decisive factor in bringing the drought to an end was the appointment of a Minister for Drought (actually the Sport Minister, Dennis Howell, with a new hat). It started raining almost as soon as he given the job! π

Ah. I remember the turning the tap off to clean your teeth thing - Iβve also done it ever since and was perplexed some time in the late noughties when it was the hot now top to beat climate change.

Those of us of a certain tribe were rather force-fed a particularly dreadful course about Eco-Christianity. We were going to save the planet by the tooth cleaning trick and changing to energy efficient lightbulbs.

Turning of the taps when cleaning teeth? Yup, I still do that. Summer of 76 I was growing baby number 3 while running around after the toddlers ! |

I seem to remember that you're supposed to brush each individual tooth 100 times. Imagine how much water would go down the sink if you didn't turn the tap off?

Why would you need to run the tap whilst cleaning your teeth? Ive just thrown the water in which I washed the potatoes (straight from the garden so muddy) under the saddest looking plants inbthe garden. Neighbour gave me an odd look, but thatβs something Iβve βalwaysβ done |

I was 9 and recall summer 76 well. The school holidays were fabulous. Oh and the thunderstorm that ended it all one night was spectacular.
