That does sound good Greg
This time next week, I could in theory give my notice of retirement and leave on my 55th birthday. I am not going to, but nice to know its possible.
I was out running last Friday lunchtime and bumped into a former colleague and his wife who did retire bang on 55 and was amazed to hear its been three years and they are loving retirement and looking well for it also

I don't think I'll go back to work. Hopefully I'll get over being angry about various abuses I just sucked up with no expectation of support during my working life.
REALLY enjoying doing a load of nothing.

I think it’s worth just letting it go, Vrap. I felt annoyed about the way I was treated in the latter stage of my teaching career but then I realised that if a workplace is toxic you’re better off out of it!

Letting it go is the only option, I'm never going to get any acknowledgement or closure. But there are people I like to believe are rotting painfully for eternity.

V'rap, if they're still in that workplace, you're probably right anyway.
I'm conflicted, I like the people, I quite like my job, but it's not changing the world much, and I'd so like the extra bit of time. But I'm also sort of hoping they'll finish restructuring soon and make me redundant this time!

Bob!
My wife just went through the restructuring, hoping for redundancy, and got offered a job. She has decided to retire on her 60th birthday in October instead.

GregP, part-time is definitely a great way to go if the numbers work for you (and if leaving right now isn't an option for any reason). My FiL went part-time/self employed in his 50s and was pottering along quite usefully for about 30 years after that, he obviously enjoyed it.
Personally I'm feeling I've had enough and probably won't be looking for more contracts now this one is winding up. It's just got a bit boring and life is short. If something takes my fancy I might do a bit more work, I like the community and the intellectual challenge, but not the tedium of writing up results once the interesting bit of work has been done.

Not sure if it’s the job I do now (role change in Jan this year) but I’ve gone from I’ll go part time to having enough and the idea of doing nothing being more appealing
But then you look at rising prices and think it’ll never happen
