It's not just date of death, it's date of stopping, if you follow. My father, God rest his soul, died age 90 but was never the same after a stroke just before his 86th birthday - followed by dementia on top of it. And he never really 'lived' - at least from a 'wanting/needing lots of money' viewpoint - after my mum died some twenty years earlier.

My dad retired early 60s, did some consulting work mid 60s, took up golf, cancer at 68, dead at 70.

Don't sacrifice your 50s or 60s for the 70s, 80s or 90s that might never come, I would say!

Though of course I wish you all good health and long life. :-) G

So spoke to my boss’s boss this morning - he ambushed me about my retirement plans. Seems a flexible 20 hours a week (160 hours every 8 weeks) might be an option which gives me and Essex Police an extra year to wean ourselves off each other.

So full time for 26 weeks, less about 3 weeks holiday?
