Good thinking um. I'm on that as well, got a couple of pals that I'm tapping up to see if they kept better records than me!
Isn't it bizarre that money can just be "lost"? Seems strange in this day and age. But I was terrible with paperwork. Particularly chaotic back then - married 1995, moved 1996, son born 1996, moved jobs 1998 (to a particularly stressful one), moved house 1999, separated 2001 and then divorced, moved to 3 different addresses over following 3 years, including living out of back of a Vauxhall Vectra at one particular low point. Pensions and taxes were not top of my thoughts at that time! G

um
The other thought HappyG, is to follow the company history and name(s). eg my first pension went from Vero Electronics to BICC-Vero to APW. Any refs to it are APW, which happened 10 years or so after I left, and I was only formally notified of that change in 2005 when it folded.

Fizz :-)
I had a pension around that time, it was a final salary, but I was in it for less than two years so when I left I had a refund of contributions. Is it possible that happened with yours?

Um, re company name, the company is still going and I am actually in contact with them as well. I don't think they have payroll records back to that time, but they have been helpful too.
Fizz, that is indeed a possibility. I was there for around 3 years, probably a bit over. I'd be surprised if it was refunded but it's possible. It may have been one of these pots where you contributed into something, then it was built up and then it "bought options/shares" ?! That is actually starting to ring bells. There was something about, you can't lose your money because it is always held in trust and you can get it back if you want, or if you leave. Hmmm, that's ringing a bell actually. That is a genuine possibility. There were all sorts of funny, creative financial vehicles back in the day, weren't there? I would have been tight for cash at that time and if given an option of take the cash now, I bet I would have taken it out (more fool me!).
If nothing else, if that's what happened it would stop me searching for it!
Thanks all for support! G

I'm having a bit of a problem sorting out my NHS pension, not that I can claim it yet. I've worked at several different trusts under different types of contract and they're having trouble tracing it all. They (NHS Pensions) have sent me a letter to request information from the Trust I worked for in 2004. Problem is, that Trust no longer exists and it's proving a challenge to find out where to send the request to. Ho hum.

I need your positive vibes todayβ¦.off to see FA in the hopes that my ex gave me enough of his pension so that I can say Iβm retiring real soon. I feel so much more calm with not working ( the meds are probably helping )
